The premise
Every financial decision has a cost. The interesting question is what you received in return.
Cost Everything is not about regret, shame, or financial failure. It is an investigation — beginning without a predetermined conclusion — into the real cost of the choices that shape a life.
The first investigation reconstructs nearly twenty years of one person's financial history. The work begins with a search for primary sources: statements, records, receipts, and evidence going back as far as the trail allows. The sources will determine the story.
Who is doing this

I am 37 years old. The financial decisions I am investigating did not begin a decade ago — they began closer to twenty years ago, when I was a teenager making my first choices about money, credit, and what kind of life I was going to build.
Some of those early decisions were made without understanding the consequences. Others were made with full awareness and a calculated bet that future-me could handle it. The problem is that future-me is now present-me — and the bill has arrived.
I was not reckless. I was strategic — or at least I thought I was. I moved debt between cards, chased 0% promotional periods, and kept the immediate consequences at arm's length. For a long time, it worked. Then it stopped working.
Now I am 37, and the weight of those decisions — some made before I was old enough to fully understand them — is becoming real in a way it never was before. The deferrals have run out. The reckoning is here.
This investigation is my attempt to understand what actually happened across two decades of financial life. Not to perform regret. Not to become a cautionary tale. But to dig through the evidence — however old, however buried — and find out what it all actually cost.
I am not a financial expert. I am not here to give advice. I am here to do the work: to unearth decisions made twenty years ago, trace their consequences forward to today, and find out whether the exchange was ever worth making. This is a personal journey. The investigation is real. The outcome is unknown.
